Here at Blue Ridge, we do believe that certain things line up as they are meant to. Two days ago, in the afternoon, a friend of ours who runs a rescue for a different breed let us know about a bull terrier at a local Animal Control in Illinois. We got in touch with the animal control officer and learned about Chico, a 6 year old male bull terrier. Chico was with the same family since he was a puppy. However, Chico’s owner has had some personal issues over the years and had difficulty taking care of many aspects in her life including Chico. Chico would often be seen just hanging out with random humans and animals in the apartment complex where he lived, loving on all of them. Occasionally he would go outside the area of the complex and then be picked up by the local animal control, sometimes just for being a stray, other times with various wounds that would need to be cleaned up. Animal control would always clean him up, bathe him and bring him back home, often bringing a bag of food for him as well. Throughout the years, all the interactions Chico has had with the Animal Control officers and anyone else he would encounter, have been very nice in spite of his chaotic life. Animal Control tried multiple times to have the owner surrender him but all their attempts were futile until a few days ago. His owner though finally made the realization that Chico would do better if he went to someone else and she signed him over. As soon as we heard all of Chico’s background and that he had lived with young kids successfully his whole life, we knew just who to call. We had been waiting for a bully to come along in the general area who we knew had grown up with kids. Former adopters who had lost their Blue Ridge alumnus bully several months ago had been patiently waiting for the right bully to come along for them and their 2 children. We made the call and the first thing we heard was, “well this is perfect timing, spring break starts this week and we were trying to figure out what we would do all week” along with palpable excitement followed by “we can go get him tomorrow”. Well tomorrow is today and Chico got sprung from animal control and is now on his way to his new home with a family to call his own.
