On April 20, 2023, our intake/placement coordinator and President of the rescue, Lisa Taubman Blount, received a message from a dear old friend named Gabriel Northern (Gabe), a guy who shares the same love and passion for animals as Lisa. Gabe played college football for Louisiana State University (LSU) and then continued on to the NFL for a number of successful years. His message simply said, “Check out this mascot” and had a screenshot of a high school athlete officially signing to continue her basketball career at LSU Alexandria (LSUA), a unit of the LSU system. Behind her was the banner for LSUA and on that banner was the school’s mascot…a Bull Terrier named Tank! How had we never known that a university had a Bull Terrier as a mascot??? Lisa immediately began looking into learning everything about how Tank came to be and what he represented. After doing a lot of research, Lisa reached out to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Division of Strategic Communications, Adam Lord, and fairly quickly received a very positive response back. Dr. Abbey Bain Vice-Chancellor for Student Engagement LSUA, Department of Student Engagement, soon joined in the conversation. Emails and meetings were had and ideas were formulated leading us to today, National Bull Terrier Day. It seems like the perfect day to share a very exciting announcement. LSUA and Blue Ridge Bull Terrier Club Rescue have formed a partnership, something that just makes sense. We have lots of plans for the future for both the school and the rescue and can’t wait to share them with you as they unfold.
