Meet Roxy

Right around Christmas 2022, an emaciated bull terrier was found roaming the streets in Virginia by an animal loving, kind hearted woman. The woman made posts all over Facebook trying to find her owner, contacted animal control and brought her to the vet to be scanned for a microchip. There was a glimmer of hope as she was chipped but then that turned into disappointment because the chip was never registered. Her stray hold passed by and no one claimed her. She has since been named Roxy and has been with her finder since the first day she was spotted on the street. When she was found she weighed 23.8 pounds. With the vet’s guidance, Roxy has been gradually putting weight on and is over 30 lbs with a goal of about 40 lbs. There is a good possibility that this little lady was used as a breeding dog previously as she has a scar on her belly that initially seemed like a spay scar but as she has gained some weight seems more like a c-section scar. Roxy has come out of her shell and although she can be a little hesitant initially with people coming into the home, she warms up as soon as she is given positive attention. Her finder loves her immensely but has a cat and a rabbit and Ms. Roxy is not a fan of them. We thought we had a home lined up for her but things fell through so here we are. The vet estimates her to be about 5 years old. She is Heartworm negative, up to date on her shots and spayed. She does have a grade 2 out of 6 heart murmur that will need some further evaluation. She currently goes outside on a leash 5 times a day for potty time and has had no accidents in the home since the first few days of being there. Crate training will have to be worked on with her but the good news about that is that she has been non-destructive. She will however find and eat any morsel of food within reach. Upon evaluation, although it was a brief interaction, she met another bull terrier and appeared okay with her. However, we don’t really know how she will be with another dog. We are willing to try having her go to a home with a relaxed dog of similar size or bigger where the humans will allow her to decompress for a few weeks while being kept separate and then attempt gradual integration with the other dog. We would also require that the dogs always be fed separate to avoid any potential issues. Since she can me mouthy when excited and loves to do zoomies where she can accidentally yet easily ram into a human, kids 12 and older. We have no idea what this little girl’s life was like before she was found but she is super sweet and loving and deserves a great life. If you live within 6 hours of Blacksburg, VA and can provide Roxy the home she needs, please either message our main inbox or Lisa Taubman Blount (https://www.facebook.com/lisa.taubman) directly.
