Bogey and Maisey are a bonded pair in need of a home ASAP

Bogey and Maisey (also known as Moo Moo)are female littermates who are almost 4 years old. Maisey is deaf and looks to Bogey for cues. When they were about 4 months old, a gentleman got them for his wife, who was bedridden. Up until April of 2022, they spent a lot of their time cuddling in bed with the wife all day, providing her comfort, companionship and love. They had a doggie door and went in and out as they pleased. Sometimes some family members would come by, including older children, who they did good with. They were not socialized with other dogs and rarely left the home so they did live a somewhat sheltered life. This past April, the wife needed more care and went to a nursing home. The bullies were use to having their human mom home all the time and when she wasn’t there any more, it impacted them. The gentleman wasn’t always home and felt that Bogey and Maisey were sad. He tried re-homing them himself but things didn’t work out and after having them for only about 2 weeks, the new owner took them to the shelter. As is often the case with bull terriers, Bogey and Maisey have been deteriorating at the shelter. The shelter staff has been trying to help with that by having them spend time outside of the shelter when they can or in the office. During those times, they seem to be back to their regular bully selves. The ideal home for them would be where someone is home most of the time. Since they did grow up using a doggie door, they aren’t necessarily use to having to ask to go out so if no one was going to be home, they should be crated to avoid accidents just because they are use to being able to let themselves out to go when they have to. While at the shelter, they have done good, appear house trained and have been fine for up to 6 hours to go potty until they are brought outside. They would also be okay in a home where someone wasn’t home all of the time as long as their human crated them while away. Although Bogey has become reactive to other dogs at the shelter, they did meet another dog and were okay with that dog in the brief interaction they had but they are very rough players with each other, especially Bogey. From the little that has been seen so far, Maisey does seem more receptive to other dogs compared to Bogey. Since they really have not had many interactions with other dogs during the majority of their lives, it would be great if they could go to a home where they were the only dogs or where they were kept separate from another dog. Slow introductions could be attempted but we are unsure if they would truly end up being okay with another dog. Due to the fact that they can get a bit overstimulated if riled up, children 12 and older. They are both currently on fluoxetine to try to help them adjust to all the changes that have occurred in their lives over the last few months. They both weigh about 43 pounds.

Bogey and Maisey are currently located in Waukesha, WI. We normally try to find a home within about 6 hours of where the dogs are located. We are willing to be as flexible as we can be with these two because we want to get them into a home, the right home, as soon as possible. If you live further than 6 hours away and are willing to help figure out transport with us, we will consider sending them further. We just want them to have a chance. If you think you can provide the home that Bogey and Maisey need, please either message our main inbox or Lisa Taubman Blount (https://www.facebook.com/lisa.taubman) directly
