On September 30th, we were contacted about an almost 6 year old bull terrier named KT who was scheduled to be euthanized on October 6th because her owner was moving into a retirement community and couldn’t bring KT with her. We spent a few hours talking to other people before finally getting the owner’s contact information. After talking with the owner, we learned other than the fact that she couldn’t take KT with her, there was no actual reason for KT to potentially be euthanized. We urgently started to look for someone who could take KT and received messages from several kind hearted people who were wiling to bring her into their homes. We decided we needed her to go to someone who could do a proper evaluation over several weeks on her so we could learn what kind of home would be an ideal permanent one. Kait, a very experienced foster, seemed like the best choice for this. Today, with the help of Sandra Gibbs, KT left the home she has known for the last 4 years, 2 days before her euthanasia was to take place, to get a fresh start in her life. Sandra and Kait met up earlier and now KT is settling in at her foster home with Kait. Once we learn more about KT over the next several weeks, we will begin to look for her foster-to-adopt home. For now, we will let her have some decompression time and just cherish the fact that she is safe and has a chance at the life she deserves.
Special thanks to Lisa Giles Craighead for initially contacting us about KT’s plight, Sandra for spearheading the effort to save KT and Kait for opening up her home without hesitation to allow KT a safe, comforting place to begin the next chapter in her life.
