Last week, we received a message about a female bull terrier at a shelter in Fayetteville, NC. The bully was picked up as a stray. We all initially thought she might be pregnant but following a thorough examination, it was decided she wasn’t. It turns out that she most likely had a litter within the last few months and then was dumped. She also tested positive for Heartworm. In spite of that, this little bully with no name, always seemed to be smiling and extremely affectionate. The shelter was beyond full and only gave us a few days to figure things out. We named her Darby and made a post looking for a home but then quickly realized we already had a perfect home waiting for a bully just like her. A woman had lost her bully last year and we had both been waiting for the right match to come along and here she was. After some scrambling, we got transportation lined up for this past Saturday with the help of some very great people who happen to also be parents to Blue Ridge bullies along with her new mom. Darby (and her transporters) had a very long day of travel with many construction and traffic delays but took it all in stride. She did her first zoomie in her new home the other night and is showering her mom with lots of love. She goes to the vet Thursday so we can get things moving along for her Heartworm treatment. Even though the treatment is tough, we think Darby will get through it with a smile on her face and some very good naps.
