We have been a bit busy and are behind on some updates, we are trying to catch up on them now. Here is one about the blue-eyed Chicago boy who was at risk of euthanasia.
Last Tuesday, October 24th, we were told about a blue-eyed bull terrier who was picked up as a stray in Chicago. We were told that he seemed permanently sad since being in the shelter. We were informed that the shelter was over capacity and if he wasn’t pulled when his stray hold was up, he was at risk of being euthanized, his stray hold was up the next evening, Wednesday, October 25th, at 7 pm. We put out a plea and the plea was heard. We received a message on Tuesday, late morning, from a local woman named Francesca who is involved in pit bull rescue. In talking with her it became readily apparent that she and her family, which includes her husband and 2 teenagers, were the ideal home for this boy. Part of their family also includes 2 rescue dogs who have thrived with them, an especially impressive task knowing the situation both dogs were in prior to being rescued. The family went Tuesday night to just meet him and interact with him. We were told by the staff at the shelter that he perked up as soon as he met them. We put everything on a fast track and interviewed Francesca, got a home check done and contacted references all before Wednesday at lunch time, everything was good to go, we just had to wait until 7 PM that night. That evening, the family was there, waiting for the clock to turn to 7 PM and as soon as it did, this special guy, now named Chino, went home with his new family. Immediately after being released from the shelter, it was like he was a different boy, a happy boy, a loving boy. Chino continues to come out of his shell and his new family is smitten. It is quite amazing to witness the almost instant transformation that Chino went through and it just warms our hearts.
