Immediate Emergency Foster Needed
UPDATE (11/16/22 @8:38 AM): We have a fabulous foster home lined up for Pepper. If she is a good fit for the family, it will turn into a foster to adopt situation. Further updates to follow.
UPDATE (11/15/22 @6:50 PM): No Pyometra! It turns out that Pepper has a massive infection in her mouth/tooth which seems to be the cause of all of her symptoms. The vet drained a lot of fluid and put her on some strong antibiotics and pain meds. We are still looking for a foster home for Pepper and will start narrowing the list down tomorrow. Thank you all for your concern for Pepper’s well being. Further updates to follow.
UPDATE (11/15/22 @3:10 PM): We have had Pepper surrenderd to us so that we can take care of her medical expenses. Her current owner has agreed to get her to the vet’s office for a 5:15 PM appointment so we can find out if she has Pyometra. If she does, she will be taken to Medvet, most likely for emergnecy surgery. We will update further when we learn more and sort things out. Thank you.
Pepper’s owner contacted us late yesterday afternoon about possibly rehoming her because they had a baby and the baby has developed allergies to her. He mentioned that he took her to the vet yesterday and that she had an infection that they gave her medicine for it. When collecting information on possible intakes, one of the things we ask for is vet records. Upon receiving Pepper’s record a short while ago, we realized that things were potentially far more serious than just an infection that needed medicine. The records note that she had a high fever, 105 degrees and has been lethargic with a decreased appetite over the last 4-5 days. Based on this information and a subsequent call to the vet’s office, we are very worried that Pepper may have pyometra or some other serious issue that needs immediate medical treatment. We are looking for someone within 2 hours or so of Manassas, VA who can get her and bring her to the vet and then foster her until she is okay medically and be willing to have her there until we can then find her a home. She has not been with other animals but the owner reports that when she sees other dogs outside of the home that she tail wags and is happy to see them. She is reported to be very good and loving with humans. She is 4 yrs old. The owners will not be home until after 4 pm today so we don’t have access to her until then.
