About 13 months ago, we received a message about a Lady, a bull terrier who had just been diagnosed as heartworm positive. Her owner was a backyard breeder who kept Lady outside with her male companion. He didn’t have interest in pursuing treatment for her. However, problems arose when we started to talk about Lady being surrendered to the rescue. His main concern was that the rescue would breed Lady and make money off her. This was very shocking as that is the complete opposite of what we stand for. Regardless of the countless ways we tried to explain that we would not breed her and only wanted to make sure she had the medical care she needed to live, he hedged. A local rescue that he was familiar with was acting as a liaison and ended up having him sign her over to them, at which point she was then transferred to Blue Ridge. Since that time, Lady went through heartworm treatment and is now heartworm negative, she was spayed, had all her medical needs addressed and taken care of. Just as importantly though, she learned how to be an inside dog, a member of a family, how to be loved and how to return that love infinitely. She did that all while in the care of Jessica and Tyler Dean, their daughters and their bull terrier, Blue Ridge alumnus, Olaf’s Warm Hugs – Adopted. The Dean family made it all possible for Lady and where we are today. Today, Lady is finally ready to start the next chapter in her life by going to her new home. She will be joining foster-to-adopt pawrents, Jackie and Jay and their Bull Terrier Rescue of Central Florida alumnus boy, Donut. We can’t wait to see Lady continue to flourish and get to know her family.
Special thanks to Hartman’s Haven Dog Rescue, Crystal Mosteller Hopson and Allison Sinchak for all of their initial help in making sure Lady got to Blue Ridge and the Dean’s, a selfless, loving family who continue to go above and beyond in every situation they are involved in, for teaching Lady all she needed to so she can be a part of a family and taking care of her through all her medical treatments.
