This week, Kathy, mom to Blue Ridge alumnus now known as Carmella, called to let us know that there was a female bull terrier who was not in the best shape in a shelter in the Buffalo, NY area. We learned that she had been picked up while running the streets with two Boerboels about 3 weeks prior. The two Boerboels have since been adopted out but the little female was still at the shelter. Kathy wanted to know if we could possibly take the bull terrier under rescue as she seems to have a lot of medical issues going on, her skin is a mess, her paws look like they would be very uncomfortable and her back legs are bowed out really badly amongst other things. We got in touch with the shelter to ask what we had to do to spring this little girl, as she is exactly the kind of bully we think rescue is all about. We are lucky in that Kathy and her husband Jeff offered to foster Bessie for however long necessary so that they can get to know her and so that we can get all of her medical needs addressed. We took care of the behind the scenes paperwork and, today, Kathy went to the shelter and brought her home. She named her Bessie. Bessie had a nice bath to clean off all of her past and now seems like she knows the reset button has been pushed. Once all of her vetting is taken care of and we know what kind of home would be ideal for her, we will begin to look for a permanent home for her. For now, we will allow her to decompress and relish the quiet and calm of Kathy and Jeff’s home.
Below is a picture of her from the shelter and one from today after she was pulled from the shelter, went to her foster home and had a bath. It’s amazing what a difference there is between the two pictures taken less than a week apart.
