On Saturday evening we received a message about a bull terrier named Bane. The woman who had contacted us about the situation, Kathy Riley, has previously helped Blue Ridge and kindly took it upon herself to get Bane into boarding early Sunday morning before we had a chance to speak. Once we connected on Sunday with Kathy, we learned that Bane needed a new home very quickly. It turns out that Bane’s mom has had to deal with a lot of serious personal things lately and needed to move out of her home immediately for her own safety. There was concern that Bane would also possibly be sold by someone else for money for some illegal things. It is a very sad situation for Bane’s former mom as it is clear that he was very loved by her. We went to work looking for a foster home for Bane so that we could learn more about him. Eva Van Stratum offered to foster Bane so we could get him out of boarding quickly and start to see how he is in a home setting. Today Bane took the first steps towards his new life when he was transported to Eva’s house. Once we have a better idea about him and his personality, we will start looking for a home for him. For now, he will settle in at Eva’s and be in a calm, safe environment. As evidenced by the photo below (taken shortly after arriving at Eva’s), he will also be working on learning some things, like not jumping up when meeting someone new!
Special thanks to Kathy for taking the lead when she learned of the situation from a local rescue, for making sure Bane was safe, for covering the costs of his boarding and vaccinations and driving the first half of Bane’s transport, Linda Lightner, mom to Blue Ridge alumnus Stella-brate – Adopted, for driving the second half and having enormous patience after getting stuck in multiple horrible pockets of traffic and having her transport leg turn into several additional hours of driving and Eva for opening her home again for another bully who needs a good foster mom.
