Señorita Sarah came into rescue in February 2021 at the age of 12.5. Sarah’s dad had died several years before and his brother had taken her to live at his farm. Sarah lived outside on the farm until she went into boarding around December 2020. Sarah’s uncle had told the boarding facility that he was considering euthanizing her but was hoping they might be able to find a home for her. Sarah was placed with an amazing couple who has been spoiling her ever since. Due to Sarah’s age, we agreed to keep her as a “fospice” dog and cover all the medical bills for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, last week Sarah became very ill. She was lethargic, refusing to eat, and vomiting. She was taken to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a severe case of pancreatitis along with an enlarged heart and fluid in her chest. Sarah was hospitalized for several days of further diagnostics and IV fluids trying to get her stabilized. When that did not work we authorized a plasma transfusion as a last ditch effort to try and save her. The transfusion did not give her the relief that we had hoped for. Sarah’s fospice family picked her up from the hospital and took her home for one last day of spoiling with the intention of giving her peace the following day. She enjoyed one last car ride with the windows down, plenty of snuggles, and passed away on her own terms that evening. We take pride in the fact we, along with AMAZING fospice parents, are able to help give older dogs so much love and compassion for their final months and years by providing the extra, and often costly, medical care that not everyone can afford for a senior dog. Just this one hospitalization for Sarah was $5663.78. We hope to be able to continue to offer this for those that find their way to us in their later years. Helping Bull Terriers Worldwide/Save Our Siblings! has graciously donated $1000.00 towards Sarah’s care and we have also contacted Rescue Welfare Trust Fund of The Bull Terrier Club of America for help with funding. We have had many expensive cases over the last months that have depleted our account. We are looking to the bull terrier community for help with donations that will allow us to provide the level of care that we want for those in our rescue.
