UPDATE (12/28/23): We have a wonderful foster home lined up. Further updates to follow.

Immediate Foster Needed

It’s been more than a week now since a nice guy named Matt found this sweet boy in front of his family’s business in Dolton, IL. There is no animal control in the town so Matt contacted the police department to make a report. He was told to just let the dog go. Thankfully, Matt has a heart and a soft spot for animals and chose to not do that. Matt and his friend Kirsten made posts on lost dog pages as well as other social media pages with hopes that someone would be looking for him. Matt had him scanned for a chip and he does not have one. The 7 day stray hold has passed by and no one seems to have been looking for him. Unfortunately Matt lives in an apartment and is only allowed to have one pet and he already has his dog who he actually found about 6 years ago. The bull terrier has been staying at his parents home all week and has been going to work with Matt during the days. He has been extremely sweet and loving with everyone he has interacted with. He knows some basic commands. He is potty trained. On Christmas Day and the following day, he did spend time with Matt’s dog and just chilled out. They sniffed each other a lot and essentially co-existed. We are hopeful that is a good indication that he will be okay over the long term with another calm dog, his size or bigger. We are willing to try him in a home with another dog who is at least 40 lbs or bigger and has medium to lower energy. We would want him to be kept separate initially from the other dog so he can decompress some and allow both dogs to get use to the sounds and smells of each other initially and then work on gradual integration. Matt’s parents can’t keep him much longer so we need to find a foster for him as soon as possible. While with a foster, we can make sure to get any and all vetting he may need taken care of and learn more about him so we know what kind of permanent home would be best for him. We will cover the costs of his vetting. He spent a little time with Matt’s nieces and nephews and did great thus kids 10 and older would be fine. We are unsure about cats and smaller animals so will err on the side of caution and say NO cats or small animals. If you live within 6 hours of Dolton, IL and can open your home to this lovely boy immediately, please either message our main inbox or Lisa Taubman Blount directly.
