Zeus Update
We have a lot to share from the last few days. On Thursday, once Zeus walked out of the shelter and got into Dan’s vehicle, he leaned big into Dan’s hand and gave him a big, loving stare. He then curled up in a bully ball and fell into a soundly sleep for the entire two hour ride home, as if the weight of the world had been lifted off of him. When they got home, they explored the yard. After each walk around, his tail lifted a little higher. They then went inside, where, initially, he either kept putting himself in the crate or wanted to go back outside. He got a bath, which wasn’t his favorite thing but he took it like a champ, and afterwards, we think he knew that the horror and ick of the past several months was washed off. He rolled on his back for belly rubs. He ate and drank water like we expected, as if he hadn’t had either readily available in quite some time. He then put himself to sleep in the crate and slept all night. Yesterday when he got up, Dan took him out to go potty and when they came back in Zeus gave Dan a little kiss. He then started to play with a stuffed toy. He has been going in the crate much less on his own. Dan recently got two knew chairs and it seems like one of those now belongs to Zeus. He has progressively wagged his tail more and more and is being very affectionate with Dan. He seems grateful for every little thing, things we all would take for granted. Dan is still getting to know him to figure out what his name will be. We have been filled to the brim with happy tears with each and every update and truly believe that Zeus knows he is safe. Zeus is an example of pure resilience, we have no idea what he went through but we know that he is a survivor and is coming back bit by bit with each breath he takes.
