Two days ago, we received a call from a high kill shelter in North Carolina about 2 female Miniature Bull Terriers. The first girl, currently named Opal, was found on July 17th. It seems that late the night before, a vehicle approached a home and then a bull terrier appeared on the front porch. The family didn’t know any of this until the morning after viewing their security cameras so Opal spent the night outside, patiently waiting to be found. The following day, July 18th, the second girl, currently named Ruby, was found in the same area. They have been at the shelter ever since and no one came looking for them. Even though they were found one day apart from each other, based on several facts and observances, it is believed that they came from somewhere together and are bonded. Since they were at a high kill shelter, we needed to move quickly to make sure they were safe. We made a post and almost immediately received a message from a waman named Arianna who said, “We just lost our bull terrier, Rory, and the only thing that would bring any sort of comfort would be to help out other bully’s who need it most”. That touched our hearts deeply. Our intake coordinator had noticed that she had one mutual Facebook friend with Arianna, a guy named Kevin. Kevin has helped Blue Ridge previously with transports. Since things were happening quickly, we decided to message him to see if he actually knew her in person or just knew her through Facebook. Well, he messaged back and said “I know her, she is my girlfriend and we live together”. That gave us a chuckle. We started messaging with and then talking on the phone with Arianna and knew we found the perfect foster home for Opal and Ruby. We reached out to our friends Steve and Elise, parents of Blue Ridge alumnus, The Rex Factor – Adopted, to see if they could help with transport, which they graciously agreed to do. This morning Opal and Ruby left the shelter with Steve and Elise and, after a bit of a drive, met up with Arianna and Kevin. We are happy to share that they are now on their way home. We feel strongly that Arianna and Kevin’s beloved boy Rory had a paw in making this all happen and are hopeful that Opal and Ruby will help mend their broken hearts.

They will see the vet this week so we can get all their medical needs addressed, including Ruby’s eye issue. The shelter had named one of them for record purposes, we did the same for the other, so they don’t currently respond to those names. We are having Arianna and Kevin decide if those names suit them or if there are better names that go with their personalities. Once we know that we will make a Facebook page for the girls. For now, we are just looking forward to seeing these two precious girls shine.
