When we learned about Lita this week, we had a lot of extra thoughts going through our minds. You see, a few days after being in the shelter, Lita had a seizure and now she is completely blind. Lita is a bull terrier though which means she has not let her blindness interfere with her life and her ability to be a tail wagging, happy, loving little girl. Thankfully she was put on anticonvulsant medicine and she hasn’t had another seizure since the first one. We had initially thought of a particular family, Kelly and Les, as a foster possibility but decided to make a post about her to see what options we might have for her. Our minds kept gravitating back to Kelly and Les though and we decided to reach out. They had adopted Molly Meets the World – Adopted in 2020. When we had taken Molly from a shelter, we were told that she had some neurological issues. Kelly and Les knew we weren’t certain what exactly was going on with her but they took her in and love her all the same. Molly has some visual impairment , has previously had a seizure and is also on anticonvulsants. As soon as we started chatting with Kelly and Les about possibly fostering Lita, we remembered that their next door neighbor also happens to be a veterinary neurologist at the nearby University Animal Hospital & Vet Clinic. It seemed like they would be the most ideal place for Lita to go, luckily for us, they were on board. We will get Lita fully assessed by the neurologist and do whatever we have to in order to give her the best quality of life she can have. This morning Regina, mom to Blue Ridge alumni, Coo Coo for CoCo Paws – Adopted and Zoey’s Zone – Adopted, got Lita from the shelter and drove to meet up with Kelly and Les. Lita is now at her foster home settling in. Although we are currently unsure what is truly going on medically with Lita, we will do our best to ensure she is loved and cared for always and that she gets any and all medical care she needs.
